Relational Athletics is Liverpool's premier artist football team amassed in response to an invitation/challenge from Birmingham-based artist Chris Poolman, the organiser of British Artists Football. On Saturday 23rd May 2009 we competed at the Power League in the BAF Mug tournament, adopting various tactical formations grounded in art theory and art history in an attempt to establish ourselves at the forefront of competitive artist football.
Justly, Relational Athletics won the award for the most artistic team in the tournament and one of our rising stars John Borley, a recent signing from New Zealand, took the award for creating the tournament's most artistic moment - screaming a host of obscenities in the face of rival side Eastside Projects' disfavoured manager.
Combining the two seemingly disparate worlds of art and football Relational Athletics aims to provide an alternative perspective from which to explore the two. We are currently available for sale and encourage offers from corrupt Americans, Russian Billionaires or Thai dictators. Please get in touch with expressions of interest.
